Health is a Human Right

All women have a right to health – a fundamental right to live in a safe, healthy home and community with access to the appropriate resources and care needed to grow, enjoy life and be productive.  Unfortunately, many women are denied this right due to circumstances beyond their control.

Factors like discrimination, prejudice, childhood adversity, stress and an unequal distribution of wealth and power, leave women, particularly women of color, vulnerable and at risk of poor health.  These disadvantages and barriers lead to health inequities or avoidable systematic differences in the health of women of color compared to women of other groups.

HERR Health and Research is a public health, non profit organization committed to ensuring women and girls of color have access to the health opportunities they need to live their healthiest lives.  HERR Health recognizes that there are multiple intersecting factors that influence a woman’s health. Through research, education, support and community engagement, HERR Health addresses the issues that matter most to women of color.

With so many barriers to good health, no woman should have to navigate her health journey alone.  Please join HERR Health as we close the gap in health disparities and build a stronger path to health equity.

HERR
Story

Women of color have a powerful legacy of strength.  We helped pave a way to freedom for enslaved people, advocated for our civil rights and nurtured and cared for our families and communities.  But we’ve paid a price – a health tax too high to pay.

The long standing, deep rooted historical practices of discrimination, by race, gender and class, lead to health disparities and poor health outcomes among women of color compared to other groups.  African American women experience disproportionately higher rates of chronic diseases, pregnancy complications and stress over their lifetime.

HERR Health and Research is HERR Health Story. Our fight for justice and equality, safety and protection, representation and respect and the right to health.  We are writing the next chapter of the story.  This is her platform: her story, her voice and her time. Together, with faith, hope and love, we will win yet another battle.
